Based on his story with his search for his Birth Parents in 2013, Alex talks about the development and progress with the I’m Adopted project that he established in 2015.
Alex was born in Arkhangelsk, Russia in 1992. He was placed in an orphanage for the first two years of his life. He was then adopted into his New Zealand family in 1994.
In 2013, Alex did a search for his Birth Parents using Social Media. He talks about how he did the search and how he felt about meeting them at the end of that year.
This was the first visit to Russia that Alex had done since he left his orphanage in 1994. He only had his birth parents names on paper. With this information he was able to find out some information.
In 2015, the I’m Adopted project (What you are reading this article on) was created. Helping other adoptees around the world connect. Alex talks about the progress with developing this project and making it into what it is today.
In 2017 Alex went back to his orphanage in Russia for the first time. He couldn’t remember anything from the orphanage in 1994, but was always interested to know where everything began for him. This was also the first time Alex had visited his birth city since leaving there in 1994.
The story is compelling, emotional and is a good story for anyone adopted. Those partially adopted from Russia or who were adopted from overseas. Every story is different.
